How to use wordpress tags and category for better SEO in your blog, they should be indexed (nofollow or dofollow). Many wordpress users use both tags and categories to their blog posts to identify particular set of posts or pages.
When creating post content for wordPress, SEO is also important to make your content visible to search engines. When you make a post you will assign some category and few tags, but most of the people don’t allow the search engines to index either tags or categories. Making tag and category index (dofollow) to the search engines may help in SEO to het more traffic, but many people will make a mistake here. They index both tags and categories, never do that or else your blog may penalized by search engines. If you want to make use of tags and category for SEO, make either tags or category index but never both and make sure the tags and category page is only showing excerpt (summary) of the articles rather than the entire article, otherwise search engines will count it as duplicate content and you may get lower rankings. You can make use of ALL IN ONE SEO plugin to index tags and categories separately. If your blog is updated daily you can index tags and if your blog is updated weekly then index categories to search engines. Also make sure that you are not using some plugins to link tags and category keyword in posts and pages, otherwise the search engine spider will be in a loop and you may be penalized.

I’m in the process of cleaning up my tags, so if I were to look for SEO. I can just opt to forget about categories if I were using the proper tags?
Thank you.
